LOCATION: Offshore Newfoundland
TYPE OF RIG: Semi-Submersible 


JOB SUMMARY:  Operate the rig’s crane in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance to Company Policies and Procedures.  Regularly perform Preventative Maintenance on cranes and components



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • 2+ years previous experience in a role with 6th generation semi submersible drilling rig
  • Maritime VHF certificate
  • Valid Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator Assessment
  • FRC/MOB certificate
  • Experience with operation of MH equipment such as gantry- and riser crane and knowledge of how this is tied into and interacts with the remaining drilling package
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
  • Must have Basic Survival Training, H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS 2015, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry, Rigging Slinging & Banksman, Helicopter Landing Officer, Offshore Fire Team



  • Provide Roustabouts with relevant instruction for current and forthcoming operations
  • Partake in pre-tour meeting prior to all non-routine deck operations
  • Inspect all lifting equipment prior to use, i.e. slings, straps, shackles, wire rope, etc
  • Ensure lifted loads are clear of obstructions, balanced, and properly secured with tag lines
  • Operate the crane as required for running casing/riser, picking up or laying down tubular, placement of equipment and supplies, etc
  • Operate the crane as required for transferring personnel and materials to and from supply boats
  • Act as Helicopter Landing Officer supervising the transit of passengers, baggage, freight, and refueling operations
  • Notify the supervisor prior to lifting or transferring heavy equipment or materials that may affect the rig’s stability
  • Assist during rig moves and anchor running an retrieving operations as directed
  • Assist with the replacement and installation of mooring lines and bulk fill lines
  • Perform safety inspection on gauges, indicators, limit switches, cables, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems in cranes
  • Carry out Preventative Maintenance tasks on the cranes and components equipment.  Maintain log of all maintenance records
  • Ensure decks and work area are organized for efficient and safe operation
  • Assist in keeping a running inventory of slings and lifting equipment in use.  Inform supervisor of shortages or damaged slings
  • Assist the Subsea department in the running and retrieval of BOP’s and auxiliary equipment
  • Assist third party service personnel in picking up and moving equipment for special operations
  • Maintain good communication with Roustabouts and Chief Mate
  • Assist to maintain accurate record of all equipment loaded onto and off the rig
  • Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate in the START Process
  • Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained in the START process
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Assist during safety drills and emergency situation as per designation or station bill
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly stowed when not in use – promptly clean up spills and accumulated wastes, and take all necessary measures to eliminate trip hazards
  • Observe proper rig operating procedures.  Report unsafe practices, any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situation to supervisor
  • Actively participate in the weekly safety meeting and other safety management system issues
  • Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Mentor, develop and train new crew members to ensure they are competent work at their next job level.  Training to include, but not limited to, proper rigging. Materials handling and techniques, and painting procedures
  • Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
