JOB SUMMARY:  Work in pump room and operate and maintain mud pump and mud mixing equipment.  Maintain records and logs of additives to the drilling fluid and the varying properties of the mud.

 

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • 2+ years previous experience as a pumphand
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
  • Must have Basic Survival Training, H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS 2015, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONS/MAINTENANCE:

  • Monitor the weight, viscosity, pH, and solids content of the drilling fluid.  Keep records and notify supervisors of any irregularities.
  • Understand the effects that various chemical additives have on the properties and condition of the drilling fluid
  • Monitor the mud pumps and mud pits during operations.  Report any unexplained pit level increase/decrease to the Driller
  • Participate in pre-job meeting with the drilling crew for all non-routine drilling operations
  • Check and monitor oil levels of machinery in areas such as mud pump room and mud processing area and change or add oils with necessary
  • Maintain daily log of drilling chemicals and mud materials
  • Line up mud pumps, mud pits and flow paths with valves as required.  Ensure instructions given are fully understood and complied with
  • Perform daily maintenance on all mud pumping and mud mixing equipment.  Ensure permit to work and isolation procedures is followed
  • Operated forklift, gantry crane and/or manual dolly to transport sacks of dry chemical additives as required to maintain correct drilling fluid properties
  • Operate all drilling fluid handling and treatment equipment in the pump/pit room in accordance with operational requirements.  Mix and tread drilling fluid as per Mud Engineer’s instructions
  • Assist in completing mud reports and daily activity report in log books and IADC report
  • Maintain records of mud pump hours

 

QHSE:

  • Maintain pump/pit room in a clean, tidy, and hazard free condition
  • Ensure all Company policies and procedures are adhered to while carry out assigned duties
  • Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to the Driller or Assistant Driller
  • Actively participate in the weekly meetings, Quality Improvement Plan program, and all other Company safety management systems
  • Actively participate in drilling operations safety drills as and when required

 

PERSONNEL:

  • Meets the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
  • Understudy the Assistant Driller and deputized as required
  • Promote and maintain good working relationship with other departments, third party personnel and Client representatives
  • Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures
