Assistant Barge Supervisor

 

REPORTING:  Reports to the Barge Supervisor

SUPERVISION:  Supervises the Ballast Control Operator (BCO), Crane Operator, Roustabouts and Painters

LOCATION:  Offshore location

 

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.

  • Valid Unlimited 3rd Mates License or Barge Supervisor License

  • Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the marine aspect of the rig

  • Basic computer skills

  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates

  • Valid Ballast Control Operator license

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  Assist the Barge Supervisor in ensuring that all marine aspects of the rig’s operations are carried out in accordance to statutory and regulatory controls and guidelines

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations/Maintenance

  • Check variable deck load on a daily basis in order to calculate and maintain unit stability
  • Coordinate all helicopters and supply boats traffic to the rig and assist in supervising transfers of materials to and from the rig
  • Monitor quantities of expendables such as fuel, potable water and drill water
  • Assist in ensuring that all marine and navigation equipment is properly maintained and ready for use at all times
  • Assist in monitoring the stability of the rig and ensure that all loads are appropriately dispersed throughout the rig
  • Operate and assist in maintaining the bulk system as required
  • Assist in ensuring that all lifting gear is color-coded, maintained and stowed correctly
  • Supervise tests on firefighting equipment, obstacle lighting, and audible signals
  • Supervise Crane Operators, Roustabouts and Painters in work related to drilling operations, deck maintenance, loading and offloading workboats, etc
  • Assist in planning rig moves, anchor patterns, and associated mobilization preparations
  • Maintain accurate daily marine logs. Forward copies of these reports to the shore-base office
  • Assist in monitoring weather/environmental conditions. Advise the Barge Supervisor/OIM on conditions likely to affect drilling operations and seaworthiness of the rig
  • Assist in ensuring that all safety equipment, including lifeboats and firefighting equipment is maintained in a state of operational readiness at all times
  • Assist in ensuring that all Flag State and Classification Society requirements are complied with including manning scale for marine personnel
  • Participate in the effective management of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) as directed by the Barge Supervisor.  Ensure that all records are maintained properly
  • Deputize for the Barge Supervisor as required
  • Maintain ballast and bulk transfer systems

QHS:

  • Incorporate the THINK planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate in the START process
  • Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained in the START process
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Play an active part in the weekly meetings, FOCUS Improvement Process, and all other Company Safety Management Systems
  • Review, understand and become familiar with the rig’s safety case
  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig
  • Partake in weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluating the deck crew responses
  • Assist the Barge Supervisor during emergency situations and emergency protection responses as designated on the station bill
  • Assist in communicating all Company QHSE policies and other to all rig personnel

 

Personnel:

  • Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
  • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure that they are competent to work at their next job level
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Ensure proper and relevant communication with all personnel
  • Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company and regulatory disciplinary procedures
  • Conduct OJT training for marine personnel
