JOB SUMMARY:  Assist the Chief Mate and Master in exercising effective control over the vessel’s marine operations with die regard for safety of personnel, maintenance of vessel  equipment, and protection of the environment

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Canadian Chief Mate (Unlimited) License, or STCW equivalent
  • Canadian Barge Supervisor License, or STCW equivalent
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • 2+ years previous experience in a role with 6th generation semi submersible drilling rig
  • Experience with Kongsberg K-Pos/SDP and K-Chief/SVC systems
  • Experience from POSMOOR ATA operations on Semis
  • Expertise of technical calculations for Stability and Marine aspects of operation
  • Knowledge of anchor mooring operations including equipment, AHV interface, winch operations and position/tension monitoring
  • STCW Ship Security Officer
  • Licensed Unlimited Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch/Second Mate (STCW II/2, (Home country and Flag state)
  • GMDSS License
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Knowledge of technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling unit
  • Advanced computer skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exercise control of the safe navigation of the vessel in order to ensure that all navigation operations are conducted in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures
  • Become familiar with the vessel’s bridge and navigation equipment. Support voyage planning and rig move operations
  • Operate and supervise mooring operations when required
  • Provide assistance during anchoring operations
  • Provide assistance win ensuring that the vessel’s navigational equipment is maintained, fully functional and tested in accordance with SOLAS regulations
  • Oversee the maintenance of deck equipment, firefighting and lifesaving equipment and marine department lifting equipment,  and updated records accordingly
  • Assist with maintaining the vessel in a seaworthy condition in accordance with its Marine Operating Manual
  • Assist with maintaining the watertight integrity of the vessel, loading and storage of consumables, securing of supply vessels and helicopter operations
  • Assist with carrying out the vessel’s Class Surveys as well as other regulatory inspections and audits
  • Provide assistance in ensuring the vessel complies with local and international pollution regulations
  • Assist with the operation of the ballast control system where applicable
  • Assist in maintaining the vessel in a stable condition and at the correct draft and trim
  • Where available, make use of the onboard simulator for training purposes
  • Assist with running hydrophones and subsea beacons
  • Ensure that all defects and anomalies are reported to the Chief Mate/Master and relevant department heads.  Maintain records of these and ensure they are adequately corrected
  • Update and maintain all charts, marine publication and logbooks
  • Assist Chief/Senior Mate and Master with updating and maintaining information on RMS and other rig information system
  • Understudy the Chief Mate and deputize as required
  • Gain familiarity with the vessel’s dynamic positioning equipment and obtain a Nautical Institute DP Certificate
  • Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate in the START process
  • Ensure that subordinate personnel are properly trained to perform START process
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Actively participate in emergency drills per Station Bill assignment
  • Perform assigned duties during emergency situations and emergency protection response as designated on the station bill
  • Ensure Company and regulatory requirement for environmental protection are complied with
  • Participate in the weekly meetings, FOCUS Improvement Program, and all other Company Safety Management Systems
  • Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the vessel
  • Meet the training and licensing requirements according to the applicable matrix
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure that they are competent to work in their current and next job level
  • Assist in development of annual performance appraisal for the Able Seaman
  • Assist in training of crewmembers in firefighting, safety and deck operations
