MOTOR OPERATOR

COMPANY/CLIENT: Transocean

REPORTS TO: Chief Mechanic / Mechanic or 2nd Engineer / 3rd Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

SUPERVISES:  N/A

LOCATION: Offshore Newfoundland
TYPE OF RIG: Semi-Submersible

JOB SUMMARY:  Monitor performance, lubricate, and maintain the engines and other mechanical equipment

 

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4th Class Engineer or Marine Diesel Mechanics Certificate  
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • 2+ years experience as a Motorman
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
  • Must have Basic Survival Training, H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS 2015, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONS/MAINTENANCE:

  • Lubricate moving parts such as gears, shafts, and bearings on engines and auxiliary equipment
  • Monitor working temperatures and pressures on all engine room and associated equipment
  • Check and record lubricating oil level readings – top up as required
  • Maintain daily log of all engine room equipment
  • Monitor all engine room systems for leaks and report any defects immediately
  • Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs on the engine room equipment and machinery as directed
  • Assist with repairs to engines and equipment in engine room and machine shop
  • Maintain the engine room and associated workshop in a clean, tidy and hazard free condition

 

QHSE:

  • Comply with regulatory requirements for environmental protection
  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre job meetings as required
  • Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situation to supervisor and other department leads
  • Assist during emergency situations as designated on station bill
  • Ensure all relevant safety procedures and practices are adhered to during mechanical maintenance work
