Offshore Painter Foreman

REPORTING: Reports to the Barge Supervisor, Chief Mate or Master

SUPERVISION: Supervises the Painters

LOCATION: Offshore location

 

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
  • Extensive work experience in Industrial Painting and Corrosion Prevention
  • Basic Survival Training

BASIC FUNCTION: Supervise the cleaning, preparation and painting of all areas of the rig and ensure that painting activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations/Maintenance

  • Plan and prioritize all painting projects. Coordinate activities with supervisors and other department heads
  • Provide paint crewmembers with relevant instruction for current and forthcoming painting activities
  • Ensure that all paint crewmembers are fully conversant with painting and corrosion prevention procedures
  • Monitor surface preparation and painting procedures to ensure compliance with paint manufacturer’s standards and specifications
  • Ensure that all painting tools (brushes, rollers, spray guns, etc) are correctly maintained and fit for intended purposes
  • Ensure that all scaffolding used by the paint crew are properly erected according to manufacturer’s instruction
  • Ensure that spills and accumulated wastes are cleaned up and take all necessary actions to prevent tripping and slipping hazards
  • Maintain all power tools, cables, hoses and fittings in a good condition
  • Forward painting progress report to shore based Paint Superintendent, where applicable
  • Ensure proper inventory control of paint goods – maintain adequate supplies onboard at all times
  • Supply information to assist in formulating the paint budget for the rig

QHSE:

  • Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate in the START process
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to Company policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe area for task assigned. Stow all tools and equipment at the end of each tour so as to avoid safety hazards for other operations
  • Ensure proper safety gears are used during work activities and assist in maintaining safety items, material, and equipment in proper working condition
  • Participate in emergency drills and respond to emergency situations as per designation on station bill
  • Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisors
  • Attend the weekly safety meetings. Actively participate in all pre-tour meetings as required

Personnel:

  • Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level
  • Train the painting crew to ensure all personnel are competent to perform their allocated job.
